4101 STUDY TOUR IN
EUROPE
An optional course. The President of ACA will invite students to see the
world of fashion through a visit to important industry and cultural events
in Europe. The ability to judge significant factors of fashion and to
analyze potential trends is developed. Students take field trips to major
fashion houses, trade shows, and similar function. Special invitations to
opera performances, art galleries, and museum exhibitions broaden
creativity. The preparation of reports develops critical judgment. Prominent
member of the fashion world lecture and give presentations as part of the
course. Students will also turn in a research paper on a selected topic.

ASIA
An optional course. The CAO of ACA will invite students to see the world of
fashion through a visit to important industry and cultural events in Asia.

trade shows, and similar function. Special invitations to opera
performances, art galleries, and museum exhibitions broaden creativity. The
preparation of reports develops critical judgment. Prominent member of the
fashion world lecture and give presentations as part of the course. Students
will also turn in a research paper on a selected topic.

1010 COLOR LABORATORY
Basic understanding of
color theory, color combinations, and the use of color in art and life.
Projects include development of color wheels with creative shapes in mind,
analysis of color schemes, and special use of intensity, value, and hue,
focusing on color theory as developed in the Western oil painting tradition
(from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance to the present).

DESIGN I
Students learn how to develop and draw fundamental fashion figures. This
course will stress the movement and proportions of both male and female
fashion figures and garment details through analysis of photographs and
figure research as a basis for the creation of fashion design sketches in
pencil and watercolor.

1111 TRENDS & FASHION
I
This course has two goals: 1) to develop a basic awareness of the
fundamentals of all aspects of the business of fashion; and 2) to study of
the flow of European and American Haute Couture to Prêt-a-porter. This
course introduces students to famous designers; students then research 4- 5
designers followed by a presentation of their life story.

A survey of basic microeconomic principles and problems. Students study the
concepts of markets, supply and demand, GNP, inflation, monetary policy, and
types of economic systems.

2121 ADVANCED DESIGN
STUDIO I
This course provides a foundation in fashion and the basics of designing
separates and causal apparel for the sports wear market. Students work
through carefully selected projects aimed at developing research skills,
interpreting and developing ideas, creative design and the ability to
communicate ideas fluently and quickly in rough form on paper. Students gain
confidence in their work through critique. Students will be introduced to
pattern designers.

IN FASHION I
A study of the history of fashion from the Antiquity to the 19th
century, with emphasis on recognition and understanding of trends and cycles
and their application to current fashion.

1041 COSTUME HISTORY
I
A general survey course
tracing the change of western clothing tradition as a source of fashion and
design, set against the development of culture from antiquity to the 19TH
century. Students begin with an exploration of the Western ideals of beauty
and continue with a specific study of the major areas of fashion revivals:
classic, exotic, country and romantic.

Students are introduced
to the basic properties of textiles. Focus is placed on the identification
of woven and non-woven fabrics. The course includes hands-on analysis of
fabric swatches Students also gain practical experience in dye processes and
burnt testing.

2122 ADVANCED DESIGN
STUDIO II
The use and understanding of stretch, knit, and woven fabrics to create body
contouring designs for sportswear and evening wear markets are explored.
Applications of denim principles to active sports wear, including swim wear.
Students will work with pattern designers.

2211 DIGITAL FASHION
DESIGN I
An introduction to basic computer language and practices, employing
Macintosh computer and related digital devices: scanners, printers, Wacom
tablets, and internet use. Students use Adobe Photoshop to create repeat
patterns and a dynamic collection of storyboards.

2020 EMBELLISHMENT
Application of design principles to the embellishment of garments and
accessories, with emphasis on techniques, creation of original designs, and
fashion trends. Embellishment includes embroidery, silks screening, crystal
and nail head, appliqué, etc. Techniques are developed through hands-on
experimentation, as well as finishes and hand-printing or computer
processing.

An advanced social science course that examines the development of dress,
adornment, and appearance as a nonverbal mode of communication and explores
the meaning of clothing in our global fashion market place.

3140 GALLERY FASHION
SHOW PORTFOLIO
Each student develops a
collection in an individualized area of apparel specialization. A
representative group of samples from the collection is completed through
individual study under the guidance of an experienced design instructor.
Students will also learn the digital skills applicable to their final
portfolio. A four-week internship in the industry accompanies this course.

SHOW PREPARATION
Students learn the importance of how a balanced collection is developed
through meetings, discussions, and modification with pattern designer and
professional model. Each student will develop a portfolio collection in an

MANAGEMENT
Prerequisite:
GNST 2510
This course is designed for students who ultimately are going to open and
run their own businesses, with an emphasis on the fashion industry. The
course will take the student from the basics of choosing a legal business
form, through accounting for Management, Financial Planning, Basics of
Income Tax, Investment Management and Wealth Building, Branding and
Trademarks, Marketing and Sales, and a wealth of information on the process
of developing effective business habits that lead to success. We will
examine the entire process of Motivation, Discipline, Time Management, Goal
Setting, Proven Success Strategies, and other like subjects.
