TEXTILE SCIENCE
Prerequisite: None
Students are introduced to the basic
properties of textiles. Focus is placed on the identification of woven and
non-woven fabrics. The course includes hands-on analysis of fabric swatches
Students also gain practical experience in dye processes and burnt testing.

EMBELLISHMENT I
Prerequisite: MANU 1001
Application of design principles to the embellishment of garments and
accessories, with emphasis on techniques, creation of original designs, and
fashion trends. Embellishment includes embroidery, silks screening, crystal
and nail head, appliqué, etc. Techniques are developed through hands-on
experimentation, as well as finishes and hand-printing or computer
processing.

EMBELLISHMENT II
Prerequisite: MANU 1001
Students will work with
mixed media and different textures to transform inexpensive fabric into
creative luxurious designs involving embroidery, beadings, etc. Students
will also have the opportunity to work with couture fabric mills
individually or within a group. This course will provide full comprehension
and knowledge on fabrics and assist in preparing for the Grand Fashion Show.

TEXTILE ENGINEERING I
Prerequisite: TEXT 1000
Students will further their understanding of fabric and printing techniques
in order to produce fabric from their original artwork. Students will also
be taught various advanced surface treatments on cloth, including burn-out
and dying.

TEXTILE ENGINEERING II
Prerequisite: TEXT 1000
Student will further build on their technical skills and broaden their
knowledge of printing. Concentration on the compatibility of fabrics to
match performance guidelines and their marketability.

INTERNATIONAL TEXTILES & APPAREL
Prerequisite: TEXT 1000
Study on textile material with an emphasis on the factors that produce a
successful apparel fabric from international markets. Fabric characteristics
such as appearance, drapability, hand, and performance, as well as sorting
of fabrics for different levels of design markets are studied. Students will
explore techniques for utilizing computers as a design tool.
