Attendance Policy for F-1 Students
Academy of
Couture Art is committed to provide job skills training which best prepares
students for the work place. Students are encouraged to develop a professional and
serving attitude, with a business mind. They are invited to consider school
as their office. Being on time for the beginning of a Class should be
considered as honoring and respecting a client appointment, and will be
certainly appreciated by a future employer or business partner. Students are required to also understand that Class
attendance is vitally important for learning professional skills. A student who is habitually absent or arrives late will
miss the heart of the course and will not develop acceptable work habits. When students must be absent or
late for class, just as a professional is expected to do with a client, the
student should call the school prior to the start of class, noting the class
they are in, an explanation of why they will not be in class that day, and
when can we expect their return or arrival.
Students must attend a
minimum of eighty percent (80%) of scheduled hours per quarter for
successful program completion. Student cannot exceed twenty percent (20%) absences. Students who missed in excess of twenty percent (20%) of
scheduled hours for a course, will receive no credit and will have to retake
and pay for that course. Three (3) unexcused absences in any class and a student
may receive a “Fail" as their final grade at the discretion of the Professor
and will have to retake and pay for the course. Four (4) unexcused absences in any class and a student
will receive a “Fail” as their final grade and will have to retake and pay
for the course. Any combination of five (5) excused
and/or unexcused absences in any class and the student will automatically be
dropped from the course without receiving credit.
The student will have to retake and pay for the
course. Student who misses in excess of twenty percent (20%) of
scheduled hours per quarter must meet with their academic advisors and will
be placed on a Plan for Improvement for one quarter and in attendance
warning status. This plan will include steps for improving attendance and
may also include restrictions, such as denying participation in special
activities or special projects. The institution places upon its
students the same demands that an employer will place upon them as
employees.
Students are expected to be on time for each
class session.
Students are considered tardy for
class if they ARRIVE LATER THAN 15 MINUTES AFTER THE SCHEDULED START OF
CLASS. A tardy student will be marked as
being tardy.
Any combination of three (3)
documented (unexcused) tardies will be considered as one (1) absence.
The student will have to retake and pay for the
course. Students who have a record of frequent late arrivals or
leaving class early will be placed on a written Plan for Improvement and in
attendance warning by their academic advisors, and will have one quarter to
correct their habit. See Attendance Warning Policy below. The institution places upon its
students the same demands that an employer will place upon them as
employees.
Students are expected to remain in class for
the entire session. Students are considered leaving
early from class if they LEAVE EARLIER THAN 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE CLOSE OF
CLASS. Professors should be notified prior
to being dismissed early from class.
A student leaving early from class
will be marked as leaving early.
Any combination of three (3)
documented early (unexcused) departures will be considered as one (1)
absence.
The student will have to retake and pay for the
course. Students who have a record of frequent late arrivals or
leaving class early will be placed on a written Plan for Improvement and in
attendance warning by their academic advisors, and will have one quarter to
correct their habit. See Attendance Warning Policy below. A student may qualify for exempted absences under the
following verifiable conditions:
·
Orientations, and exams
for jobs related to the vocational program,
·
Pre-approved agency
appointments.
·
Medical emergency Exempted absences may not exceed ten percent (10%) of the
student's scheduled hours per quarter. Jury duty and military duty do not count against the
eighty percent (80%) attendance requirement. Students who wish to add a class after the first day of
instruction must obtain written permission from the professor and the
Registrar. Student can only add a course prior to the third (3rd)
session. Students who wish to drop a class after the first day of
instruction must provide written notification to the Registrar. Student dropping a course prior to the fourth (4th)
session will have no grade or notation appearing on their record. Students who wish to withdraw from a class must provide
written notification to the Registrar and receive written authorization. Students withdrawing from a course after the third (3rd)
session will have a "W" appearing on their record. The “W” will not be used in the computation of the
student’s grade point average, but will be counted in the determination of
whether the student is fulfilling the requirements regarding the maximum
time frame (see Maximum Time Frame Policy). Students who
withdraw after the seventh (7th) session will receive a grade of "F" for the
course. Students receiving a “W” or an “F” will also be required
to repeat the course (see the Repeating a Course Policy). If a student is
enrolled in only one course and wishes to withdraw from the course he/she
must withdraw from the school and will be subject to the Re-enrollment after
Withdrawal Policy. If a “Leave of Absence” is
required, a student must submit in writing to the Office of the Registrar,
the basis of the request, expected return date and the initial date of
request with the student's signature.
This does not automatically reflect
the school's approval.
A Leave of Absence may be limited to a
specified amount of days (NOT TO EXCEED 180 DAYS).
Only one Leave of Absence will be granted for a
student during any twelve (12) month enrollment period. If the student’s leave of absence is NOT approved, the
student will be considered to have withdrawn from the school. If the Leave of Absence is
approved, the student may return prior to or at the end of the Leave of
Absence and resume training without paying any additional tuition.
Students requesting Leave of
Absences must understand that upon return, a revised course completion date
will be established, which will delay their graduation date.
Remember, A LEAVE OF ABSENCE DELAYS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO
BEGIN YOUR NEW CAREER. It is important that you have a
leave of absence prior to any absent days.
Time taken on a leave of absence does not count
in the satisfactory academic and attendance formula. Unexcused absences do. Students who have demonstrated
unsatisfactory attendance will meet with their academic advisors and placed
under a Plan for Improvement and in attendance warning status for the
duration of a quarter. Students who do not correct their
unsatisfactory attendance after being under a Plan for Improvement for the
duration of a quarter, may be placed into Probation status for one quarter.
The probation period may be lengthened to provide
assurance that the student achieves and maintains satisfactory attendance
progress. The student will be allowed to make up hours, assignments
and or exams if space is available, and be removed from probation. Students under a plan of
improvement, who do not correct their unsatisfactory attendance during two
(2) quarters in the row, will be placed on attendance suspension status.
Students who simply stop attending classes before the end
of the quarter and do not officially withdraw will be deemed to have an
unauthorized withdrawal. In this case, the date of withdrawal shall be
deemed to be the last date of recorded attendance. Upon the discretion of
the Registrar, ACA can terminate the student’s enrollment. Academy of Couture Art reserves the right to suspend or
dismiss any student whose attendance, professional conduct, classroom
behavior, or academic performance which does not meet the school’s standards
and/or who fails to abide by the rules and regulations. Any student who has been suspended or dismissed may
appeal the action by following the student appeal procedures outlined in
this catalog.
Attendance Policy for F-1 Students F-1
students are required to take a full course of study. Students are also
expected to attend all class meetings. Students who attend less than 80% of
all classes at the end of each quarter without prior authorization, will
have their SEVIS record terminated and must apply for reinstatement (if
eligible) or depart immediately the United States.
Academy of
Couture Art is committed to taking all reasonable steps to ensure the
students have the opportunity to successfully complete their programs.
Students who do not support the academic and ethical
goals of the College for themselves and their fellow students may be subject
to penalties, up to and including expulsion. In general, Academy of Couture Art will attempt to

for expulsion and the effective date. A student who is expelled by Academy of Couture Art will
be considered withdrawn from their program on the effective date of the

Couture Art’s Fee Refund Policy. A student who is expelled is responsible for the return
of any College property in his/her own possession within 10 days and will be
held financially responsible for any property not returned in good condition
or as outlined in the student contract. Academy of Couture Art may deduct
from a student’s fee refund any amount owing by the student with respect to
such property. Expelled students who dispute the
facts of the expulsion must appeal the decision within
five (5) days
of the expulsion notification. Students expulsed for Academic Failure or attendance, may

ACA Grievance Policy and Procedures, and be made in writing using the
school’s appeal form, which can be obtained from the Office of the
