Course descriptions During this program you will learn how to make a basic muslin pattern to your measurements and personalize it to fit your own design ideas. You will then learn how to translate this muslin into a paper pattern, cut your fabrics, and sew your garment together. Through the entire course you will learn progressively how to make more sophisticated garments. FASHION DESIGN "Learn Fashion Sketching and Illustration" 2 hours once a week (day, evening and week-end classes available). Course description: Learn how to develop and draw fundamental fashion figures using European colors. This course will stress the movement and proportions of both male and female fashion figures and garment details through analysis of photographs and figure research as a basis for the creation of fashion design sketches in pencil and watercolor. FASHION TRENDS "Sustainable Fashion" Wednesday July 16th, 23rd, 30th. 2 hour sessions each day from 7pm to 9pm Course description: This 3 part workshop conducted by Nathalie Fausty, will take us on a path to better understand sustainability in relation to fashion. 1st) What is Meant by "Sustainability"? By analyzing the history of fashion, our relation-ships with clothing, ethics and evolution of manufacturing processes, a clear picture of the present will appear. Patagonia as a case study is discussed to open a dialogue about sustainable practices. Terminology will be ad-dressed: Cradle to Cradle, Eco, Green, Organic etc. 2nd) Exploration of materials and processes used in the fashion making. From fiber to yard to fabric to apparel, the flow of materials, impact on environment and social responsibility are assessed. Cotton, Hemp, Bamboo, Linen, Wool, Tencel™, Polyester, Sisal, Seacell and many more are reviewed. Retting, Bleaching, Solvants, Chemicals, Dyes, weaving, knitting, cut and saw and discard are also reviewed. 3rd) Creative and Design processes. Impact of design choices and a look at alter-native ways of thinking. From re-using fabrics to creating new silhouettes, we need to re-think the creative process. "Slow Fast Fashion", "Fashion infused products" are topics discussed. This segment is supplemented with a trend forecast of upcoming seasons for sustainable fashion.
